The challenge.
The existing residence experienced storm-related tree impact damage affecting parts of the roof and adjoining exterior wall construction.
The property contained a complex roof arrangement with several intersecting roof sections and differing slopes. The existing roof area was approximately 5,441 square feet, creating the need to distinguish the damaged portions from the larger roof assembly that would remain.
The proposed work involved the removal and replacement of damaged roofing materials, sheathing, framing members, and affected wall components. It was important to document the existing building's appearance and roof geometry so the repair scope could preserve the original configuration rather than introduce an unrelated building alteration.
A further challenge was uncertainty regarding the full extent of concealed structural damage. The actual condition of trusses, rafters, beams, roof bearing points, wall framing, and structural connections could not be established from the available drawings alone.
The documentation therefore needed to identify the proposed repair areas while emphasizing field verification, temporary shoring, appropriate connection details, and additional structural evaluation wherever hidden damage was discovered.

The outcome.
A four-page unsealed drawing package was prepared for the storm-damaged roof and adjoining exterior wall repair project in Flossmoor, Illinois.
The documents established the existing roof geometry, identified the areas proposed for repair, documented exterior building conditions, and provided general construction notes concerning temporary structural support, framing replacement, weatherproofing, and restoration.
The drawings identified approximately 5,441 square feet of existing roof area and described the intent to restore affected construction without adding new floor area or materially changing the existing roof configuration.
This project illustrates how existing-condition drawings can support the planning and coordination of residential structural restoration following storm damage.
The available drawing set does not establish the final extent of concealed damage or serve as evidence of a completed engineered repair. Additional field assessment, approved repair details, professional review where required, and municipal authorization may be necessary before construction.
This residential repair project involved preparing an unsealed drawing package documenting existing roof and exterior wall conditions associated with storm-related tree impact damage at a home in Flossmoor, Illinois.
The existing roof covered approximately 5,441 square feet and incorporated multiple roof areas, primarily with a 4:12 pitch and secondary sections with a 3:12 pitch.
The proposed repair scope focused on restoring the affected roof and adjoining exterior wall areas while maintaining the home’s existing architectural geometry and appearance.
The four-page documentation package included a project cover sheet, general notes, existing roof plan, and exterior building elevations. The drawings identified the storm-damaged portions of the roof and associated wall areas, along with general repair requirements for affected framing, roof sheathing, weather barriers, roofing materials, and exterior finishes.
The scope was limited to repairing existing construction, with no proposed additional floor area. Final structural damage limits and replacement requirements were to be verified in the field before construction.
The drawing package was prepared for project and repair coordination. Professional engineering sealing, municipal approval, and completed construction have not been independently verified.
